Who would enjoy a Wildlife Travel holiday?
Wildlife Travel holidays will appeal to many of the following...
...those interested in general natural history: holidays that may have a particular focus but covering flowers, birds, other wildlife, and landscape.
...the botanist or plant enthusiast: with an emphasis on exploring the local flora, our holidays are suitable for those who simply enjoy plants and wish to see them in their natural habitat as well as those with more botanical knowledge.
...the ‘gentle’ birder: holidays to see birds in their natural habitat, often a wide range of species but also enjoying more general wildlife (and at an easier pace) than offered by most ‘birding trips’....the traveller who enjoys local culture: all of our holidays have an element of cultural interest, including history, particularly through our local guides....those wanting a better understanding of Wildlife conservation. This is an integral part of our holidays and you will learn about local issues and initiatives, and often have the opportunity to visit conservation projects or nature reserves. The title of the Wildife Travel holiday gives an indication of the main interests covered & expertise of the leaders.
You may be unsure about booking on a group holiday. It is always interesting that many who have not been on a Wildlife Travel holiday before join one of our holidays and then become regular travellers because of the company and the friendship they find. You have a large choice of holiday type, duration (from a week to four weeks) and destination. The breadth of our holidays appeal to many, and the chance to meet others with similar interests. A Wildlife Travel holiday is ideal for anyone who wants some amenable company, wonderful wildlife and an insight into the local culture.
Our expert and experienced leaders ensure that you will have a fantastic holiday at all times. Most of our leaders are drawn from the staff of The Wildlife Trusts and all have a wealth of natural history experience and nature conservation knowledge. Of course, they don’t just provide expertise; our leaders also ensure that you have an enjoyable and relaxing time. After all, it is supposed to be a holiday! To quote a recent traveller, ‘(the leaders’) attention to detail of planning was impressive, their knowledge encyclopaedic, thoughtful and good company!’
Our leaders are often accompanied by local guides who have an intimate knowledge of the countryside and its wildlife. Between them, our leaders and guides can help you to identify many of the plants and animals and also to understand something of the local ecology and landscape - not forgetting guiding you through the local food and wine if you wish!
A full and varied itinerary, with time to enjoy the wildlife and culture.
All accommodation is of a good standard. Our ideal hotel is small, locally owned, with local character and local food. We also look for accommodation that is 'environmentally friendly'. Larger hotels will only be used where practicalities dictate. All the accommodation has en suite facilities unless specified otherwise. Single rooms are available on nearly all holidays.
We aim to provide a taste of the local food (and wine!)! Most diets can be accommodated and there is no need to be worried about being presented with food you don't like! Please discuss any food worries with us.
The atmosphere is relaxed, the walking pace gentle and there is plenty of time for sitting in the sun (or shade!) and enjoying good food and conversation. Typically, excursions start about 9 am and finish by 5 pm with time to recall some of the species of the day, perhaps during a pre-dinner drink. The pattern of the day does vary, however, with some days being shorter and some may be longer especially when transferring to new accommodation. There is also the opportunity for some early morning excursions on some trips or late evening wildlife 'listening' on others!
We pay special attention to planning so that each trip is well-researched and well organised. Each year, there are some new destinations and, among the ‘old favourites’, a few that are well worth revisiting as they have a different focus. We hope that you will enjoy the varied mix of interests. On many holidays, we will be travelling with our excellent local guides who always add so much to our ‘wildlife and culture’ experience.
