Responsible ecotourism and the Eco- audit
We aim to support responsible ecotourism and offer you an alternative to a holiday with one of the purley commercial travel companies. Remember that Wildlife Travel supports conservation directly in the places that we visit and by donating all profits from our holidays to the Wildlife Trusts.
Additionally we Eco-audit each Wildlife Travel holiday to ensure that we minimise the environmental impact within the constraints of giving you an excellent holiday. We are careful to consider the travel to and from your destination and the type and amount of transport we use during the holiday.
We continue to work with conservation partners at our destinations and with The Wildlife Trusts in the UK to develop conservation based tourism.
Flight-free options
Wherever possible, we are keen to offer holidays that don’t involve flying. As well as the environmental problems associated with air travel, we are also aware that many people just prefer to travel overland! Therefore, we now offer the option of rail travel for the vast majority of our European holidays. In many cases, this can be an extremely pleasant extension to the holiday. For example, our Romanian holidays can both be taken by train, extending the holiday by four days and involving overnight travel in comfortable sleeper carriages, a day to explore Vienna on the way and a wonderful scenic journey through the Carpathian mountains.
Carbon issues
We were one of the first wildlife holiday companies to off-set all our flights as a matter of course. We are now developing ways to address the problem of carbon emissions produced by our activities, whilst bringing positive gains to wildlife. Therefore, for example, we now support the work of the Jocotoco Foundation in Ecuador. Jocotoco are involved in a cloud-forest conservation and reforestation project in the Andes, both protecting and expanding this globally important habitat, vital for both the climate of the planet and the diversity of its wildlife.
